How to Help Wisely? Erste Bank Polska Supports the Development of a Sustainability Textbook
The HumanDoc Foundation has published a new chapter of the multimedia textbook Introduction to Sustainability.
This time, the authors examine the mechanisms of providing humanitarian aid. The publication is Poland’s first academic textbook devoted to sustainable development that places people, their needs and social responsibility at the centre. Erste Bank Polska has been a partner of this publication from the outset.
This project shows that cooperation between academia and responsible business can genuinely change the way we educate people about the challenges of the modern world. By supporting the creation and development of the textbook, we want to help disseminate knowledge that encourages long-term, sustainable action based on cooperation with local communities.
The newly published chapter of the textbook presents specific examples of aid initiatives from different parts of the world. It also explains why effective support is increasingly based on cooperation with local organisations and individuals who best understand the needs of their communities.
Every day, we see information about new crises and aid fundraisers. In the new chapter, we show how to distinguish actions that truly support people in crisis from those that merely look good in photos.
The textbook Introduction to Sustainability was prepared by an interdisciplinary team of scholars. In the winter semester of 2025–2026, it was used by nearly 900 students at six universities in Poland, including the University of Warsaw, Jagiellonian University, the University of Wrocław and the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn. In the new academic year, four more universities will join the project, and the textbook will be updated with new chapters.
The publication is available free of charge online in multimedia format at zr.humandoc.pl.
